Steve's PAC....
There are two things I love: writers and politics.
My friend Steve, writes about politics. (among other things)
For a million reasons, Steve is one of the most inspiring individuals I have been lucky enough to know in life. Mainly for two reasons, (1) his total transparency and openness and honesty in his life and the way he lives it, and (2) he takes action when he believes he can make something better....even on a small scale with his writing and sharing stories with others (i.e., his decision to fly to Mississippi, as Hurricane Katrina is pounding away at the gulf, and then heading into the heart of the post-storm in New Orleans arriving before even the President or FEMA could get there)....or a semi-larger scale, with his writings and postings on his own blog and Huffington Post re: issues involving juvenile justice and juvenile detention facilities....or an even larger scale, by travelling with the Democratic Presidential candidates on their quest to retake the White House in the summer of 2004 and documenting this through the Village Voice, and eventually an awesome book....this leads into his collaboration with other bright young things in the literary world to put together "politically inspired fiction" and connect the readings held with fundraising for progressive candidates.
Now, finally, his biggest "movement" - founding a Political Action Committee using the resources he knows so well (bright young writers) and with a goal of doing his part to take back the House. Tobias Wolff, Anthony Swofford, Curtis Sittenfeld, Sean Wilsey, Jonathan Franzen...just to name a few. LitPAC was born from Steve's simple desire to be an active participant in this great nation of ours, no matter how much the dark side gets us down...
I'm going to help him out with that, in the minor of way of housekeeping a blog, (currently in its infancy stage) which will focus primarily on comments/issues/stories about the contributing writers...and some news and information regarding the candidates that LitPAC is supporting. And, the first four are some solid men and women you should all take time to investigate. They too, are an inspiring bunch.
Please stop over and visit the place once in a while....its located here: www.litpac.org
Please plan on supporting this organization when it makes its way to your neck of the woods. I know the few dedicated Midwestern readers I have follow the same political path.
Please pass on word of our organization to anyone you know that may be interested.
Please tell anyone you know, be it writer, fan, professor, student, politician, who wants to get involved, please get in touch with me, Steve, or volunteer. We're going national baby! We will find ways for people to help. There is MUCH to be done before November, friends...
Please keep up the fight, and take part in this political process of ours any small way you can. Even if its nothing more than telling people what you think, and why you think that way. People want this country to be a better place again, and we shouldn't be afraid to share those ideas with others.

(I'm still posting here...the other one is just a little more "serious" in nature...not everyone wants to hear about the Detroit Tigers ascent to the top of the AL Central, do they?)

Great post. I'm pretty new to Elliott's work, and I appreciated your thoughts. The LitPAC site looks great, and I'm excited to see how the show works in New York. Keep up the good work...
the more you read about steve, the more you'll like... he's a solid guy.
