Nice Oklahoma...real nice...

Rape a 4 year old girl = 1 year in jail. Yeah, that's fair...
Oklahoma's attorney general wants to know why a man who admitted raping a McAlester girl did not also face charges for abusing her older brother.

Two state legislators are separately calling for the removal of the judge who oversaw the controversial plea agreement that gave David Earls just one year in jail.

Attorney General Drew Edmondson said he is disturbed by the "lenient" deal struck last month with Earls, who pleaded no contest to raping and sodomizing the girl, then 4 years old.

District Judge Tom Bartheld ordered Earls, 64, to serve one year of a 20-year sentence. He was also credited for time he's spent in jail, meaning he will be released in three months.

...but he banged the staffer who wasn't his wife anyway...

Taking on Big Coal in PA...

A fight worth fighting...
A small Pennsylvania town is trying to ban coal mining in a battle being played out across the state as rural communities try to assert control over mining, gas drilling and other businesses.

Attilia Shumaker, an environmental activist, stands on the porch of an abandoned house that she said was abandoned because coal mining caused the land beneath it to shift, cracking the house's foundation and basement in Blaine Township, Pennsylvania May 12, 2009. Some legal experts say the township is highly unlikely to win that fight. For now the dispute is in federal district court, where major energy companies have sued the township over three ordinances that would ban coal mining and require companies in any business to disclose their activities to local officials.

Torture's biggest proponent...

About time someone will make him answer...
A federal judge has ruled that John Yoo, a former Bush administration lawyer who wrote crucial memorandums justifying harsh interrogation techniques, will have to answer in court to accusations that his work led to a prisoner’s being tortured and deprived of his constitutional rights.
